Good Guys Car Show-March 2017

March 25-26 in Pleasanton CA

GOODGUYS CAR SHOW-MARCH 2017 ALMOST RAINED OUT
March is a funny time of year. Especially for an outdoor car show. You just never know what the weather will be like. Even in California where I live, there’s just no predicting what will happen. The Goodguys is based in Pleasanton CA, about a mile from the Alameda County Fairgrounds where they hold 4 car shows a year. There are Goodguys shows across the country, all year long (for coverage of some of their past shows go to our Car Shows-page), rain or shine. But because they’re based in Pleasanton they are able to do a show in November, March, June and the big one in August. November is, of course, November. March is dicey at best and this year it kept everyone guessing right up to the end. It looked like rain. It even let go of a few drops. The skies were gray and cloudy, but it stayed warm enough and it never actually rained.

FEWER CARS AT GOODGUYS CAR SHOW-MARCH 2017
Because of doubts about the weather, lots of people stayed home. Spectator attendance was light and there were fewer cars than normal. But for me, and for my purposes of taking pictures for this website, it was near perfect. Without the bright sunlight beaming down, picture-taking was much better also. I was able to bop around all day without fighting the crowds, the lines for food were shorter, and there were less people crowding around the cars. And as always, the people who were there were in a great mood.

I SHOW MY CAR AT GOODGUYS CAR SHOW-MARCH 2017
It’s been years since I’ve put a car in a show and I thought it was about time. So I detailed up my humble driver, a 2005 Mustang GT and put it in the show. Not that I thought I would win any trophies, although it is a 100% unmodified, one-owner creampuff. I was more interested in covering this show from the perspective of displaying my car. Actually, it wasn’t much different, except that I had my trunk to use as a home base, so I didn’t have to haul all my crap around all day. But, among some of the awesome cars at this show, my little baby was a wallflower. However, like everything, this was a learning experience, which was my intent also. I wanted to run through the process of putting a car in the show on a light show weekend, without so much pressure, and I got exactly that. Now I know for next time what to expect, what to bring and how to prepare. I already have a nice detailing kit, and because you can never keep leaves and grass off your clean carpet, a high-quality 12-volt car vacuum cleaner. June is the next Goodguys Car Show and I plan to be ready.

BELOW: My trusty steed. Perhaps I should have parked it with other modern Mustangs. It might have gotten noticed more. Still a fun day not matter how you cut it.

So let’s look at some cars already!

GOODGUYS CAR SHOW-MARCH 2017 IS ALL ABOUT THE CARS
What are Goodguys Shows for if not the cars? So, here ya’ go, a random sampling of some of the great pictures I took at the Goodguys Car Show-March 2017. Enjoy…

BELOW: ’62 Corvette pro mod with a wicked big block under that tilt front end.

ABOVE: A sweet 1973 Chevy Camaro Z28

BELOW: Lots of modern muscle at the Goodguys Car Show-March 2017, like this showroom-condition 2007 Mustang GT/CS. The “CS” stands for California Special, harking back to the 60s version by the same name.

ABOVE: Back in the days when interiors delighted their occupants, the 1963 Ford Thunderbird reigned supreme. Ford really went all the way with the T-bird’s interior, and they sold a lot of them because of it.

ABOVE: 2007 Corvette still looking like a brand new car.

BELOW: Now we’re talking. A 1970 Chevy Chevelle SS396 like this would make me very happy. I even like the color.

ABOVE: This 1970 is one of the nicest Olds 442 I’ve seen in a while, and I see a lot of them.

LOOK FOR A GOODGUYS CAR SHOW NEAR YOU
The Goodguys have great classic car shows nearly every weekend all year long, somewhere around the country. Chances are they’ll be coming somewhere near you this year. You can visit their website at www.good-guys.com for their event schedule. And like they say…BE THERE!

My favorite FLAME JOBS at the

FLAME JOBS AT THE GOOD GUYS CAR SHOW-MARCH 2017
I love flame jobs. I love the classic old-school flames, but I also like modern-day flames, the ones that make it look like the car’s on fire. Every time I attend a Goodguys Car Show, I pick out a few nice, or unique (and not always nice) flame jobs that caught my eye. Allow me to share a few with you now. Enjoy…

ABOVE: This sweet coupe has very classic old-school flames. Simple, understated, yet standing out against that black body.

BELOW: Scooby Doo, where are you? I couldn’t resist this crazy Ford Econovan straight out of the 70s.
