Mopar Alley Mopar Rally 2014

Mopar Alley Mopar Rally 2014

Sunday, June 1, 2014
De Anza College, Cupertino CA

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – MOPAR HEAVEN!
ABOVE:If you like Mopars, there is nowhere else on earth that you should be than at one of Mopar Alley’s legendary Mopar Rallies. Here, proud owner Janice, poses with this genuine ’70 Plymouth Superbird. Janice hails from the Wine Country. How sublime.
BELOW: This year, Mopar Alley held their righteous show at a new venue for them, the De Anza College campus in Cupertino CA. It’s traditionally been held at Ohlone College in Fremont. As you can see, De Anza has an enormous solar array partially shading their parking lot, which is a blessing on hot days. However, it worked against me in my efforts to take great pictures.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – WHAT A DAY!
ABOVE: That’s me (AC) posing next to a long line of modern Mopar Muscle. For once, I was smart enough to wear a hat, on the one day I wouldn’t need it, thanks to the shade provided by all those solar panels.
BELOW: That’s my cousin Mark, up from SoCal. We spent the day looking a awesome Mopars and catching up on old times…did I mention the row of Vipers.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – YOU SEE IT ALL!
ABOVE: The cars at this show vary wildly, in genre as well as condition. Many were done, some to near-100-point perfection. Others were more street or retro mods. Some were drivers. Others were works in progress. But they were all nicely organized so that you could see rows of Barracudas, rows of Challengers, rows of Chargers, rows of Letter Cars and so forth. Where else on earth can you do that?
BELOW: Did I say you could see anything? I wasn’t sure if this one was serious or a joke. It appears to be a former destruction derby warhorse, complete with Superbird-style high wing. But apparently, it’s the real deal. It started out life as a ’66 Plymouth Belvedere, then raced in the 24 Hours of LeMans, according to the placard. Looks like it crashed into the wall at LeMans.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 WELCOMES AMC
It’s only fair, since Chrysler bought out American Motors in 1987, right? So now all those AMC Javelins, Rebels, The Machines, and quirky 2-seat AMXs have a home. Here, proud owner and grandpa Sy and his grandson pose with his ’68 AMX.
BELOW: Bud poses with his ’69 AMX. You think these guys know each other? They were parked next to one another at the show, and they’re both from Millbrae. Great cars, guys.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – CARS & PEOPLE
ABOVE: All great car shows are as much about the people as they are about the cars. Of course, there are plenty of gorgeous cars to eyeball. The lovely Miss Hollywood was one of the gorgeous people, and she also gave away the trophies. Here she poses with a ’71 Dodge Superbee.
BELOW: A member of Mopar Alley and one of the crew that was running the show, Don from Union City CA also found the time to show this impeccable ’69 Charger R/T.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – JUST HANGIN’ OUT
ABOVE: The atmosphere at the show was laid back and friendly. Everyone was having a good time and was more than willing to take some time to show you their car, answer some questions, and swap stories. Thumbs up on this sweet ’69 Roadrunner, owned by Christian from Gilroy.
BELOW: This guy came with his whole family, and this very original ’70 Challenger R/T.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – CARS, CARS, CARS…
ABOVE: This beautiful 1970 Dodge Coronet R/T has a 440 6-pack under the hood with cold air coming from those scoops. Owner, Jerry is justifiably proud.
BELOW: This lovely couple ordered this immaculate 1972 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus with every conceivable option, then babied it and took great care of it over the years. It’s all original, paint, upholstery, all of it. Congratulations, on your years together, and on preserving this great car.

ABOVE: This is one particularly nice ’70 GTX, owned by Dave from San Leandro.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY – A JUDGED SHOW
This year over 125 trophies were given out in a variety of classes, along with their “Top Gun” class, which is made up of last year’s show winners.

MOPAR ALLEY MOPAR RALLY 2014 – TROPHIES
It’s one thing to build and maintain a great-looking classic car. The accomplishment of it alone can be very gratifying. But when you show that car to others of your ilk, and they like it, that feels really good. But, when your car is judged against all the others like it, and declared the winner…well, there’s just nothing else like it! Congratulations to Deborah from Hayward CA on your awesome ’70 Dodge Dart Swinger 340.

ABOVE: Martin from Cupertino won this trophy for his drop-dead-gorgeous ’70 Roadrunner.
