1977 Chevrolet Corvette

1977 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CHANGES & UPGRADES
The 500,000th Corvette rolled off the assembly line in 1977. The “Sting Ray” chromed script disappeared on the ’77 Corvette. But it is replaced by a new crossed-flag emblem on the nose and rear gas cap.

1977 CHEVROLET CORVETTE INTERIORS
Leather seating came standard on the ’77 Corvette, but leather seats with cloth inserts were optional. On the dash, a new voltmeter replaced the ammeter, and the “Door Ajar” and “Headlamp Up” warning lights were removed. Now the padded sunshades could be swiveled to cover the side windows as well. The manual shift lever grew by an inch in length, but with shorter throws. The steering wheel was wrapped in leather for the first time, and the steering column was shortened slightly.

1977 Chevrolet Corvette ENGINE

1977 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ENGINES
Two 350s were available this year, one with 180 horses and the top engine with 210. Not much to brag about. The top engine took 15.5 seconds to cover the 1/4-mile. Power steering and brakes became standard for the first time! Chevy broke tradition with the ’77 Corvette when it switched from Chevy Orange engine blocks to blue painted engines, partway through the 1977 model year. They never went back.
