1970 Plymouth GTX

1970 PLYMOUTH GTX MOVING UP
The 1970 GTX was mostly carried over from the 1969 model year with the typical minor yearly changes in front and rear facias. But it was becoming apparent that sales were being lost to its sister-car the Plymouth Road Runner, which looked very similar. So greater effort was made to differentiate the two. The GTX got a new power bulge hood, and faux rear brake cooling scoops. The Air Grabber hood returned, this time with one large opening on the power bulge, rather than two smaller ones, as on the 1969. Positioned as a nicer muscle car than most, the GTX came loaded with standard features that were optional on lesser cars. The convertible body style was dropped.

1970 PLYMOUTH GTX ENGINE OPTIONS
Plymouth’s luxury muscle car came standard with the 440 Magnum big block V8 with single 4-barrel carburetor and rated at 375hp. Next up was the 440 Six-Pack with three 3-barrel carburetors on a special aluminum manifold, good for 390hp. At the top of the heap was “The Elephant Motor”, the almighty 426 Hemi at 425hp, which was grossly underrated. However, it was big and heavy, and so the lighter 440+6 was said to be able to run neck-and-neck with it, up to highway speeds.
