1969 Plymouth Barracuda

1969 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA UPDATES & IMPROVEMENTS
This is the third and final year of the 2nd-generation. Next year, 1970, the all new Barracuda will come out and change everything. For now, Plymouth was dialing up the performance. The Super Commando 383 got a power bump to 330hp. A new performance package became available called simply “Cuda” which was based mechanically on the Formula S option package. Cudas came with either the 340 small block V8 or the higher-output 383 or 440 Super Commando, both big blocks.

1969 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA “CUDA” 440
The big 440 V8 was almost to much for the little Barracuda to handle. Packaging the huge engine in the tight engine bay made it impossible to offer either power steering or power brakes on a ’69 Cuda 440. That huge iron block placed 57% of the car’s weight on the front tires, and with no power steering you can imagine what it must have been like parking it. Now imagine hauling that monster down with non-assisted drum brakes. But who cared about slowing down when you could get into the 13s with that big 440.
