1960 CHEVROLET CORVETTE ON ‘ROUTE 66’
The biggest news on the Corvette front in 1960 was the hot new TV series that premiered that year called “Route 66”. It followed the adventures of 2 young men as they drove aimless around the US, mostly on or near “The Mother Road”, in their 1960 Chevrolet Corvette, seeking adventure. With all their luggage strapped to the rack on the truck lid, they set up, top down most of the time. That show probably did more to move the Corvette into the mainstream consciousness than any amount advertising that Chevy could have done.
1960 CHEVROLET CORVETTE MECHANICAL UPGRADES
Engine choices remained unchanged from 1959, with the exception of a new set of aluminum racing heads that could be ordered on the 290hp Fuelie engine only. On the handling front, an anti-sway bar was added to the rear suspension to improve handling and stability.
1960 CHEVROLET CORVETTE STYLING
Styling remained pretty much unchanged for the 1960 model year, carrying over from the 1959. This would be the last year of the rounded tail. Starting next year, it would receive a new rear end treatment, moving it ever closer to the Stingray look. This would also be the last year of the big “toothy” chrome front grille.
