Half Moon Bay Airport, Half Moon Bay CA

2014 PACIFIC COAST DREAM MACHINES
‘Dream Machines ‘ is a combination car show, airplane show, antique farm equipment show, and motorcycle show all in one, located on California’s coast at the Half Moon Bay Airport in Half Moon Bay. It’s traditionally been a 2-day event, but this year it was compressed into a single day, on a beautiful, if overcast, Sunday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. But more than even gorgeous cars and bikes and great historic tractors and planes, there was a live band, lots of things happening, even more things to see, awesome vendors with all sorts of interesting stuff, and some pretty amazing vittles. It’s a big show, physically, spread as it is across an entire airport. There was a lot of walking, but it was worth every step.

THE PLANES

ABOVE: A luscious North American P-51 Mustang taxis prior to takeoff. There’s nothing like the sound of a Merlin V12 at full song.

BELOW: Crowds waited in line for the chance to walk through this WWII-era transport.

ABOVE: This totally mint Mitchell B-25 bomber stunned crowds as it started up and took off.

BELOW: This Russian Jet Trainer also took off from the Half Moon Bay Airport runway. Very cool.

ABOVE: Check out this cool early Cold War-era Russian trainer.

BELOW: It was parked right next to a gorgeous P-51 Mustang, with their wingtips practically overlapping. I couldn’t resist this picture of the two competing stars.

THE REST OF THE SHOW

ABOVE: There were live bands playing all day long, and they were good!

BELOW: The antique farm equipment display was fascinating. Lots of old ‘hit-and-miss’ engines running water pumps, machine tools, and just about everything else you can think of. These old-timers made life easier for a lot of farmers from the late 1800s to the 1940s. They demonstrate the ingenuity of these pioneers working with simple implements.

ABOVE & BELOW: There were a few cool military vehicles also, both new (above) and old (below).

ABOVE: You can see just about anything at a Dream Machines Show. This cool little Micro Car is actually pulling a trailer with a Micro Motorcycle on it.

BELOW: Every good car show has got to have a trailer-mounted Dyno, right? Here a Mustang revs it up to its power band as it spins the rollers up with its rear wheels. Noisy, smoky and wicked exciting!
