2006 FORD SHELBY GT-H HISTORY
For the 1966 model year, Ford and Shelby worked a deal with Hertz Rental Cars to build a limited-edition fleet of Hertz Rental Cars based on the ’66 Shelby GT350. The program was called “Rent-a-Racer”. It was a great promotional stunt for everyone involved. But an unexpected side effect was that many a hot rodder would rent one for the weekend, pull the Shelby-spec high-performance 289 out of it and swap back in a stock 289, before bringing the car back to Hertz. Crazy, huh?

THE MODERN 2006 FORD SHELBY GT-H
The 2006 and 2007 Ford Shelby GT-H was a special limited-edition model commemorating the 40th anniversary of the ’66 Shelby GT350H. Only 500 were built. The black body with gold stripes are a Hurst-Mustang styling cue from the 60s. The package also included a special hood with power bulge/scoop, and old-school hood pins, a clean new grille, and a new front spoiler.

SHELBY GT-H CHASSIS UPGRADES
‘ It wouldn’t be a Shelby if it didn’t have some chassis upgrades to enhance handling. The Shelby GT-H came with the FR3 Ford Racing Handling Pack, which included specially-tuned shocks, shorter springs with special rates, heavier sway bars, a strut tower brace, and a 3.55:1 rear axle ratio.

2006 FORD SHELBY GT-H ENGINE
The Shelby GT-H engine started out life as a standard 4.6L 3-valve Mustang GT engine. Then it received the FR1 Power Pack from the Ford Performance Group catalog which includes a 90mm cold air intake, high performance exhaust with model-specific X-pipe, and a set of Ford Racing GTA mufflers. All this added up to a bump of 25 hp and 10 lb/ft of torque over the stock GT’s 300 hp and 320 lb/ft.
