1969 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER UPGRADES
The 1969 was mostly carried over from 1968 with the typical cosmetic changes to front and rear facia, side marker lights, stripes, trim and a new design for the Road Runner decal. A convertible body style was added to the lineup, which surely cost its sister car the GTX some convertible sales. Inside there were new bucket seats. All in all, it was a successful design, over 84,000 were sold and Motor Trend Magazine named it their 1969 Car of the Year.

1969 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER AIR GRABBER
A new cold-air induction system called the Air Grabber Hood was introduced, which could be opened or closed manually, and when open fed cold air straight into the huge oblong orange air cleaner that had a picture of the Warner Brothers cartoon character Wile E. Coyote on it along with the words “Coyote Duster”.

1969 PLYMOUTH ROAD RUNNER ENGINE LINEUP
The standard engine was the Roadrunner 383 with 335hp, 5 more than the standard 383 Magnum or Super Commando 383s by virtue of its wilder cam. Even better, it produced 425 lb-ft of torque, the second highest of any Plymouth. However, 383s optioned with Air Conditioning got the normal 330hp engine. The 440 Six-Pack sporting three Holley 2-barrel carburetors on top was also offered starting midyear. All came with functional cold-air hood scoops, the Dana 60 limited slip differential with 4.10:1 axle ratio. The 440 Six-Pack was rated at 390hp at 4700rpm and 490 lb-ft of torque at 3200rpm, the same torque rating at the 426 Hemi but at a lower engine speed. The 426 Hemi was at the top of the heap, sprouting twin 4-barrels and making 425hp and 490 lb-ft of torque.

MORE TO COME FROM AMERICAN-MUSCLE-CARS.NET
WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED

We are growing as fast as we can, gathering and taking eye-popping photos of awesome Classic American Muscle Cars, doing research on specifications and history, and writing content. We all love these great cars, so it’s not like work, in fact, it’s a blast. But it does take time. If you see that we’re lacking in some area, we just don’t have the photos and/or content yet to finish. Give us some time and as we get more eye-popping photos, we will continue to flesh out the site. Join us as we grow, but please be patient with that growth.

PS: Special thanks go out to Specialty Sales (www.SpecialtySales.com) for the hundreds of eye-popping pictures they've allowed us to use. Specialty has 4 classic car showrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area full of gorgeous classics. We'd also like to thank The Goodguys (www.good-guys.com) for putting on some of the best car shows around, and allowing me to take all these great pictures. Thanks again to you both.
