1969 PLYMOUTH GTX UPGRADES
The release of the Roadrunner convertible cannibalized sales from the GTX. Ironically, it turned out to be the last year for the GTX convertible, and a total of just 701 GTX convertibles were sold for the 1969 model year. The racing stripes were gone and in their place, the bottom of each side was painted black. The new Air Grabber hood with functional hood scoops was made optional on all non-Hemis, and standard on Hemi-equipped cars. The standard GTX engine continued to be the 375hp Super Commando 440 V8 with single 4-barrel. The GTX took the Roadrunner package and added a heavy duty battery, exhaust trumpets, heavy duty transmission and suspension, bucket seats, premium carpeting, hood scoop, stripes and various trim pieces to that big 440. And for 1969, there was a new front and rear facia and revised trim.
