1968 Plymouth Barracuda

1968 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA IDENTIFICATION
The 1968 Barracuda carried over pretty much everything from the 1967 model. There were of course minor differences in details and trim. The ’68 was the middle-child of the second generation of Barracuda, straddled by 1967 and 1969, and they all share the same body shell, interior and basic features. The easiest way to tell them apart is by the side marker lights. The ’67’s don’t have any side marker lights; the ‘68s have small rounds lights with no refectors; and the ‘69s have small rectangular side marker reflectors with no lights. Just remember, no side marker ’67, round marker ’68, square marker ’69.

1968 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA ENGINE OPTIONS
The 273 small block V8 was replaced by the 318 small block (called the “LA engine”) as the base V8. The new 340 V8 also based on the LA-series small block, was released with 4-barrel carburetor. The top engine was the Super Commando 383 big block V8, normally good for 325hp, but choked down to 300 in this application, due to more restrictive exhaust packaging.
MONSTER 1968 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA
About 50 1968 Barracudas were built with the 426 Hemi for Super Stock drag racing. These very special, ultra-rare cars were assembled by Hurst Performance, and in addition to a full array of performance mods, they pulled every trick in the book to bring the weight down. Lightweight ChemCor side glass, fiberglass front fenders, hood and lightweight bucket seats, all sound deadening was removed along with just about everything else that wasn’t absolutely essential, including the back seat. These monsters were ripping through the quarter mile in the mid-10s back in 1968.

MORE TO COME FROM AMERICAN-MUSCLE-CARS.NET
WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED

We are growing as fast as we can, gathering and taking eye-popping photos of awesome Classic American Muscle Cars, doing research on specifications and history, and writing content. We all love these great cars, so it’s not like work, in fact, it’s a blast. But it does take time. If you see that we’re lacking in some area, we just don’t have the photos and/or content yet to finish. Give us some time and as we get more eye-popping photos, we will continue to flesh out the site. Join us as we grow, but please be patient with that growth.

PS: Special thanks go out to Specialty Sales (www.SpecialtySales.com) for the hundreds of eye-popping pictures they've allowed us to use. Specialty has 4 classic car showrooms in the San Francisco Bay Area full of gorgeous classics. We'd also like to thank The Goodguys (www.good-guys.com) for putting on some of the best car shows around, and allowing me to take all these great pictures. Thanks again to you both.
