1965 DODGE CORONET RETURNS
The Coronet had a long history with Dodge, dating all the way back to 1949 when the Coronet was one of Dodge’s first post-war designs. It served through 4 generations, as a full-sized car until 1959. Then, the Coronet nameplate went away for several years. But when it returned in 1965, it wasn’t as a full-sized car anymore. Now it was an intermediate, or what we call today a mid-sized car, based on Chrysler’s new B-body platform. It had clean lights, and was big and boxy just like a mid-60s car was supposed to be, and it sold very well, 209,000 units in its first year, and a home run for Dodge.

1965 DODGE CORONET MODELS
They came in 3 flavors, the base Coronet, the Coronet 440 and the top-of-the-line Coronet 500. The full range of engines were available on all trim levels. Coronets came in a wide range of body styles: 2-door Couple, 2-door Hardtop, 2-door Convertible, 4-door Sedan and 4-door Wagon. The 500-series was only available Hardtop and Convertible form. The mid-line 440 could be ordered at a Hardtop, Convertible or Wagon. The 440 designation had nothing to do with the engine displacement, it was purely coincidental, and referred to an earlier Polara series.
