1963 Chevy Nova SS
1963 CHEVY NOVA CARRIES OVER
The ’63 Chevy II/Nova was largely carried over as is from the 1962 models. Minor trim and detail changes were made. Top engine remained the 3rd-generation 195 cu in inline six, introduced in 1962, with 7 main bearings. It was no powerhouse, but a solid motor nonetheless. And in the Lilliputian 2450-pound Chevy II, even it felt fast.
1963 CHEVY NOVA SS
The SS or Super Sport version of the Chevy Nova was introduced in the 1963 model year. It consisted of special emblems, trim, wheel covers, and bucket seats, a floor shifter and an SS-specific instrument package. But as of 1963, you still couldn’t order a V8 in a Chevy II or Nova from the factory. So, most Nova SS’s came with a 6-cylinder. Again, dealer-installed 283 and 327 V8 conversions were commonplace.
